Brief Overview

Simone Rowe’s publications and research interests include disability and criminal justice issues; First Nations people and criminal justice issues; abolition; critical interdisciplinary approaches to carcerality and state violence; and innovative research methodologies that centre the subjugated knowledges and perspectives of marginalised groups.

Research Topic

Disability and the Carceral State: An examination of the criminalisation of people with cognitive impairment

Synopsis

In the current era of continual carceral growth, persons with cognitive disability are disproportionately subject to processes of criminalisation. By advancing empirical and theoretical knowledge about this phenomenon, this study will offer new understandings about the intersecting forms of oppression, including state-sanctioned violence, that render members of this group more susceptible to being criminalised.
